During Social Studies, we have been learning about Greenpeace, who it is, what it did that made a positive benefit to the world, and what they are doing now to help save the ocean.

Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network as it consists of 26 independent regional or national organisations that over 55 countries across Africa, Africa, Asia, Europe and America it is internationally based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

What Greenpeace did to make a positive change is they have created a ban on global nuclear weapons which finally happened in 1996 as global nuclear weapons have been harming the environment and human health due to their radioactive waste for thousands of years.

What Greenpeace is doing to help save the ocean is by stopping illegal fishing, by bycatching, and bottom trawling from destroying the protected corals and have been encouraging others to stop littering and minimise plastic use.

Roman Arches Reflection

Today in Social Studies, we have been learning about Roman Arches such as the structures of it, where it was originated from, and how they’re still being used today.

We have been making a clay version of the Roman Arche in groups of 3 or 2 and were doing a weight test where we add a dictionary on it and see if it still stays intacted.

If you don’t know what Roman Arches are, Roman Arches is an ancient Roman Architecture that has been used since prehistoric times, used by Greeks, ancient Egyptians, and Babylonians, that was used again and was perfected by the ancient Romans, it is used for creating bridges, aqueducts and a boundless like public buildings that are able to hold about a hundred people.

Roman Arches is the ancestor of Modern Architecture and why Roman Arch is really important and why it still has effects today is because it was an architecture form that allowed to control pressure from a weight of a building, because of this, it had an ability to support heavy structures so that they don’t collapse as this is still being used on modern architecture, today, Roman arch are still seen in many places as huge structures and some still intact back from their days as Roman Arch didn’t just had the ability to support structures, but also made them last longer.

Here’s the picture of the clay model of the Roman Arche that I and my group did:

Vietnam War Reflection

During the 3 weeks of Social Studies, we have been learning about the Vietnam War such as the dates, when and where did it take place, what countries were involved in the war such as who was against or supporting the war, who created the war, and how long did it last.

We have been doing our Vietnam War Research in Google My Maps, Google My Maps is a map website, similar to Google maps, except we can make our own custom map where we’re able to pin down locations around the map, put information in them, and can add images videos as well.

As we were learning about the Vietnam War, we’ve been using Google My Maps to pin down the locations such as where did the Vietnam War take place, where did the multiple protests of the Vietnam War happen, and we’re putting info in each of the locations pinned down.

The Vietnam war was a conflict in Vietnam that started on November 1 1955 to April 30, 1975 (Lasted almost around 20 years), and was a fight between Vietnam and US, as many other countries were also involved in the war. The common reason why the US caused a fight with Vietnam was that they were afraid of communism being spread throughout Asia as they saw Vietnam as the source of it and wanted to prevent it as the US was a free country and was all about democracy and didn’t desire it to be taken away from them, because of it, many people were killed in the war, many sons and men were sent into war as many parents and families had to be reported after the war that their loved one died.

What I found interesting about the Vietnam War was that New Zealand was supporting the US, meaning they also supported the democracy as they also sent a modest amount of troops alongside the US. Another thing I also found interesting during my time learning about the Vietnam War was that China and Russia were also involved in the Vietnam war, as they gave a supply of gear, such as petrol, soldiers, and missiles.

New Zealand’s support for the US influenced many other places, as it provoked many other countries into protesting because the public and many others were against the support that New Zealand was giving to the US.

However, as there were also some soldiers of Vietnam who survived the war, there was still a huge impact given on them, after the first war, the surviving soldiers were treated by the public as heroes, but as time went by, after the many things they had to endure during the second war, many of them came back with severe stress, lots of them were traumatized and had depression from the war, had nightmares and flashbacks of the war as many of them started becoming drug addicts, because of this, the public soon started seeing them as psychos and was treated negatively.

Here’s the map I created where you will see the location of the protest and the war that was happening during the Vietnam War:
